good and bad news

I'm probably a little over due for a post but, I have a good excuse for it. I got a new computer recently that I love, but I found a down side to it. I discovered that I can put my camera memory card into the computer so I need to figure out another way to download and post picture. So I thought I would write something else, but  a lot more than half of my blog is pictures. And I think the best descriptions are pictures. So I might not post pictures for a while :( , so I have to get my writing skills on..........

polymer clay vs. air dry (paper) clay

Ok so so far i've made only some cookies out of air dry clay but i've already noticed the difference between the two. One big difference  is the texture, air dry clay is by far the softest clay ever. Paper clay has a unique texture which helps add a more realistic touch to your miniature food. So I thought  it would be better to list the pro's and con's of both air dry and polymer.

POLYMER CLAY

PRO'S
  • already colored
  • firm enough to cut without ruining your creation
  • there's so many tools available for this clay
  • never dry's out (unless bake)
CON's
  • lacks transparency
  • lacks texture
  • hard to add texture
  • harms certain plastics
  • must be conditioned first
AIR DRY PAPER CLAY

PRO'S
  • has transparency
  • texture ( this is what I like most about it,  you don't have to worry  about the texture because most of it is done for you)
  • very soft and light weight
  • easy to add a realistic touch with chalks or acrylic
CON'S
  • have to be very carful to cover your clay so it would harden
  • have to color it your self
  • most tools are you have to make
  • cutting various layers of colored clay is tricky
  • you have to be patient ( this i'm not sure if i should list this as a con because if your patient is won't affect you)
Well I think I listed everything I could but it all really comes down to you and your opinion and which one works best for you. Since i'm just starting out paper clay I read a lot about the differences between the two but I recommend you buy it so you can see for yourself.

What its all about!!

Well I wanted to start a new year with a new blog , I mean what a better way to start a year but I didn't  know what to make it about. So after thinking and brainstorming about what I should make this blog about I finally decided what it should be, but I should tell you about myself first. I make things out of polymer clay I even have a blog about that QuetzClayCreations . When I started with polymer clay my intention was to make miniature food but that wandered off to a different direction and I started to make other things. I found out recently about air dry clay being good clay for making miniature food and I decided to try it out, well why not. And I thought it would be cool to post my experiences about air dry cay as a beginner and the differences between air dry and polymer clay.
